CFIA suspends the operating licence at Establishment 587, KML Meat Processors Ltd.

Effective September 1, 2017, the operating licence of Establishment 587, KML Meat Processors Ltd. was reinstated and the company was allowed to resume operations under ongoing inspection by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

July 18, 2017, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the operating licence of Establishment 587, KML Meat Processors Ltd., a registered meat slaughter and processing facility located in Westwold, BC, effective July 14, 2017.

The operating licence was suspended due to the company's inability to design, implement and maintain acceptable written prerequisite programs and hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) system, as required by the Meat Inspection Act and Regulations, 1990.

There are no food safety issues associated with this suspension and no product is being recalled.

The operator will not be able to resume production activities until the CFIA determines that the required corrective measures have been taken.

Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended, cancelled or refused renewal for failure to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its website.
