CFIA Suspends the Fish Import Licence of SPG Importers

March 14, 2017, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the fish import licence of SPG Importers, located in Brampton, ON, effective March 8, 2017.

There is no recall associated with this suspension.

The licence suspension is the result of infractions identified on February 13, 2017, where the company contravened section 6(2)(e) of the Fish Inspection Regulations, requiring them to notify the CFIA of fish imports within 48 hours of arrival.

The company may not import fish into Canada while its fish import licence is suspended.

An appeal can be requested within 60 days of suspension of the fish import licence. This request must be accompanied by an acceptable, written corrective action plan.

Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended, cancelled or refused renewal for failure to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its website.
