Regulations amending the Agriculture and Agri-Food Administrative Monetary Penalties Regulations (Health of Animals Regulations)

Title or Working Title of the Regulatory Initiative

Regulations amending the Agriculture and Agri-Food Administrative Monetary Penalties Regulations (Health of Animals Regulations)

Description of the Objective

Amendments to the Health of Animals Act introduced through the 2012 Jobs, Growth and Long-term Prosperity Act enabled the establishment of flexible, geographically defined zones for purposes of eradicating foreign animal diseases or controlling diseases that have become established in certain parts of Canada that could impact the animal sector.

Amendments are required to align Schedule I of the Agriculture and Agri-Food Administrative Monetary Penalties Regulations with the changes to the Act that were introduced in 2012 and the corresponding amendments to the Health of Animals Regulations (HAR). The amendments would enable the issuance of Notices of Violation for the provisions that were added to the Act in 2012. Additionally, the amendments would adjust the short-term descriptions of violations to reflect amendments to provisions in the HAR. Finally, the amendments would repeal items that relate to provisions of the HAR that have been repealed.
