Regulations amending the Health of Animals Regulations (Humane transportation)
Description of the Objective
These proposed amendments to the Health of Animals Regulations would improve animal welfare, align with international standards, reflect current science regarding industry practices and animal needs, clarify definitions and remove vague terms, improve enforcement capabilities, and remove obsolete or unnecessary requirements. The proposal would move towards satisfying Canadian societal expectations regarding responsible farm animal care and the humane treatment of animals during animal transport, including loading and unloading.

There would be business impacts. The "One-for-One" Rule and the Small Business Lens would apply.
Public Consultation Opportunities
The proposed amendments will be pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I in Fall 2016. A public comment period of 75 days will be available for Canadians and other interested parties to provide feedback on the regulatory proposal.
