Regulations amending the Health of Animals Regulations (Cross-border Transport Biosecurity Protocol)

Title or Working Title of the Regulatory Initiative

Regulations amending the Health of Animals Regulations (Cross-border Transport Biosecurity Protocol)

Description of the Objective

The Health of Animals Regulations contain biosecurity requirements, which require the cleaning and disinfection of livestock and poultry conveyances, as a means of preventing the introduction of foreign and new emerging animal diseases into Canada. Regulatory gaps identified during the 2014 Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea outbreak highlighted the need to review requirements for cleaning conveyances. This regulatory amendment would mitigate the risk of disease introduction through contaminated transport conveyances at all Canadian ports of entry and would include proposed amendments that are aligned with current science and industry practices.
