Maximum Quantity Limits for Personal Use Exemption

Although the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) came into force on January 15, 2019, other requirements will be introduced in 2020 and 2021 based on food commodity, type of activity and business size. For more information, refer to the SFCR timelines.

The maximum quantity of a food that is part of a shipment of a food that is set out in Column I of the following table is that set out in Column II.

Unless otherwise noted, the maximum quantity applies to the food in Column 1 that is sent or conveyed from one province to another, imported or exported. In all cases, the other requirements for personal use (in other words, not intended for commercial use and sent or conveyed, imported or exported by an individual, otherwise than in the course of business) apply.

There is no maximum quantity for purposes of sending or conveying eggs from one province to another for personal use.

Subject to any limits imposed under the authorization issued, there is no maximum quantity for the purposes of sending or conveying such a carcass or part of a carcass from one province to another for personal use, or for importing or exporting such carcass or part of a carcass for personal use.
