Ottawa, May 2, 2011 - The following warning was issued to the media by Mastronardi Produce Ltd., Kingsville, Ontario on May 2, 2011

KINGSVILLE, May 2, 2011 : Mastronardi Produce Ltd., Kingsville, Ontario is warning the public not to consume Field & Farm brand, Grape tomatoes, 1 pint; and, Compliments brand, Santalina Grape tomatoes, 280 grams because they may be contaminated with Salmonella anatum.
Mastronardi Produce is taking this action after they were notified by a supplier about one lot of tomatoes that was later determined to be contaminated with Salmonella anatum. The supplier was Six L Packing Company from Immokalee, Florida.
Mastronardi Produce is voluntarily recalling the following products from the marketplace.

Lot number is on side of the UPC in vertical position. These products were available for retail sale from April 15, 2011.
The Farm & Field product was distributed in Ontario by Metro Ontario Inc.
The Compliments product was distributed by Sobeys in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and at the Bonichoix located at 1244 St-Augustin Road, Embrun, Ontario.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
Affected grape tomato products may be contaminated with Salmonella anatum, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (e.g., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
Consumers can return any of the products noted above, or the UPC code from the package to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
