Ottawa, March 23, 2013 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public not to consume and retailers, restaurants and institutions not to sell or use the nut butters, peanuts, sugar or tahini described below because the products may be contaminated with Salmonella or other harmful bacteria.

These products have been distributed in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and may have been distributed in other provinces as well.

Consumers who cannot determine the original product identity are advised to check with their retailer to determine if they have one of the affected products.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of the affected peanuts, nut butters, tahini or sugar could result in a wide range of symptoms that may include vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever, headache and body ache. In rare cases, chronic, severe, or even life-threatening symptoms may occur.

Recall was initiated by Vicrossano Inc. on March 26, 2013.
