Government of Canada promotes safe food handling practices with on-line resources
OTTAWA, October 8, 2010: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has created four web-based videos that promote safe food handling practices in the home. The four main messages of Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill are demonstrated in four meal preparation videos to help Canadians better understand these important food safety messages and put them into practice.
The four safe food handling messages are demonstrated in the following video concepts:
- preparing a school lunch
- cooking with a food thermometer
- cooking a holiday turkey dinner
- preparing a home-made pizza
The CFIA has also updated its on-line Food Safety Wheel Game for adults, youth and educators. The game tests food safety knowledge on the four food safety messages of Clean, Separate, Cook and Chill.
The CFIA worked with the Canadian Partnership for Consumer Food Safety Education and Health Canada to develop these on-line food safety resources.
The videos and game are available on the Government of Canada’s (GC) new Food Safety Portal and the CFIA’s Consumer Centre and will also be available at CFIA exhibits.
In addition to learning more about these important food safety messages, Canadians can sign up for email alerts at the above websites and report their own food safety concerns.
New mobile and social media tools are also available to help Canadians stay informed about food safety:
- Subscribe to RSS updates for food recalls and allergy alerts. They will be delivered to RSS readers.
- Stay on top of food recall and allergy alerts with notifications delivered directly to email accounts.
- Follow the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on twitter for food recalls and allergy alerts.
