Fine of $ 19,000 for Aliments Breton Inc.

May 30, 2013, Ottawa: On 14 March 2013, at the Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce courthouse, the company Aliments Breton Inc., located in St-Bernard, pleaded guilty to seven (7) counts of violations of the Feeds Regulations, 1983.

The Court of Quebec ordered the company to pay a fine of $ 19,000.

Aliments Breton Inc. pleaded guilty to three charges for having manufactured and sold feed for livestock consumption, without providing information about the veterinary prescription on the label as required by subsection 26 (7) of the Feeds Regulations, 1983. The fine is $ 3,000 for each charge.

Aliments Breton Inc. also pleaded guilty to four counts for having manufactured and sold cattle feed that had not been registered, as required by subsection 5 (1) of the Feeds Regulations, 1983. The fine is of $ 2,500 for each charge.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) verifies livestock feeds manufactured and sold in Canada or imported are safe, effective and are labelled appropriately. Effective feeds contribute to the production and maintenance of healthy livestock.
