Allied Pioneers Enterprises Co. Ltd. Convicted of Violations to the Fish Inspection Regulations

Richmond, BC, January 27, 2012: On July 19, 2011 in British Columbia Provincial Court, Allied Pioneers Enterprises Co. Ltd. entered a guilty plea to three counts of violating Section 8 (4) of the Fish Inspection Regulations.

In his decision, the Honourable Judge Fratkin ordered Allied Pioneers Enterprises Co. Ltd. to pay $2,000 for each count for a total of $6,000.

Section 8 (4) of the Fish Inspection Regulations states:

"No person shall alter, deface or remove a tag attached to any fish or container thereof pursuant to subsection (1) or move, sell or dispose of any such fish or container thereof unless he has obtained a release from an inspector."

A Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) investigation determined that Allied Pioneers Enterprises Co. Ltd. broke CFIA regulations by removing detention tags and moving a shrimp product and two ready-to-eat fish products which were awaiting inspection.

The CFIA enforces federal legislation including the Fish Inspection Regulations. The CFIA safeguards food, animals and plants which enhances the health and well-being of Canada's people, environment and economy and access to international markets.
