Clément Nadeau Convicted of Violating the Health of Animals Act
Montreal, Quebec, August 30, 2011: On July 12, 2011, at the St-Joseph-de-Beauce Courthouse, Clément Nadeau, a driver employed by Transport Eugène Nadeau Inc., located in Sainte-Marguerite, was convicted before the Court of Quebec on one count of violating subsection 35(1) of the Health of Animals Act.
Mr. Nadeau was accused of obstructing the work of inspectors on November 8, 2007, at the Colbex Slaughterhouse in St-Cyrille-de-Wendover by disrupting the inspection of a trailer used to transport animals.
The CFIA is responsible for enforcing a variety of federal legislation, including the Health of Animals Act and the Health of Animals Regulations. The CFIA safeguards food, animals and plants, which enhances the health and well-being of Canada’s people, environment and economy, and access to international markets.
