Compagnie nationale d'importation de harengs ltée Fined $3,000 for an Offence under the Fish Inspection Regulations
Montreal, Quebec, August 11, 2011: On May 18, 2011, at the Montreal Courthouse, Compagnie nationale d'importation de harengs ltée, located in Anjou, pleaded guilty to one count of violating the Fish Inspection Regulations.
The Court of Quebec ordered the company to pay a $3,000 fine.
Between February 10 and March 31, 2009, the company exported processed fish—salmon, herring, trout and whitefish—to Ontario without having the processing and storage of the fish carried out in a federally registered establishment, in violation of paragraph 14(3)(a) of the Fish Inspection Regulations.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is responsible for enforcing a variety of federal statutes, including the Fish Inspection Act and its regulations.
