Eric Millen fined $500 for an offence under the Health of Animal Act

Moncton, New Brunswick, December 20th, 2011: On September 27, 2011 at the Nova Scotia Provincial Court in Truro (NS), Eric Millen was found guilty of contravening subsection 35(1) of the Health of Animals Act.

Mr. Millen was accused of obstructing the work of an inspector on December 9th, 2010 at the Atlantic Stockyards Ltd in Murrays Siding, Nova Scotia by making a false and misleading oral statement to a CFIA Inspector.

Subsection 35(1) of the Health of Animals Act states:

No person shall obstruct or hinder or make any false or misleading statement either orally or in writing to an analyst, inspector or officer who is performing duties or functions under this Act or the regulations.

The CFIA is responsible for enforcing a variety of federal legislation, including the Health of Animals Act and the Health of Animals Regulations.
