Eskimo Express Inc. Fined $3,000 for Offences under the Meat Inspection Regulations, 1990
Montreal, Quebec, August 12, 2011: On May 16, 2011, at the Quebec City Courthouse, Eskimo Express Inc., located in Saint-Arsène, pleaded guilty to two counts of violating the Meat Inspection Regulations, 1990 which occurred on June 4 and August 4, 2008.
The Court of Quebec ordered the company to pay a $3,000 fine.
The offences consisted of admitting into a registered establishment meat products from a non-registered establishment without having them inspected.
During inspections carried out in the company’s registered establishment, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) found 18 cases of boneless chicken breasts and 8 boxes of dry sausages and ham which came from establishments that are not federally registered. The admission of these meat products in the company’s establishment,contravenes subparagraph 44(1)(a)(i) of the Meat Inspection Regulations, 1990.
The CFIA is responsible for enforcing a variety of federal statutes, including the Meat Inspection Act and its regulations. This Act governs the import, export and interprovincial trade of meat products.
