LHK Traditional Foods Trading Inc. Fined for Contravening the Meat Inspection Act

Moncton, New Brunswick, September 2, 2011: On July 14, 2010, LHK Traditional Foods Trading Inc. registered in Ontario as 1583309 Ontario Inc. based in Markham, Ontario pleaded guilty in Provincial Court in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to one count of contravening the Meat Inspection Act and was fined $1,500.

Between February 2009 and October 2009, LHK Traditional Foods Trading Inc. was involved in the interprovincial movement of meat from Ontario to Nova Scotia which did not comply with subsection 8(b) of the Meat Inspection Act.

The Meat Inspection Act states:

8. No person shall send or convey a meat product from one province to another unless
(b) it complies with prescribed standards and is packaged and labelled in the manner prescribed.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is responsible for enforcing a variety of federal statutes, including the Meat Inspection Act and its regulations. This Act governs the import, export and interprovincial trade of meat products.
