Nick Synchyshyn Convicted of Violating the Health of Animals Act
Brandon, Manitoba, June 24, 2011: On May 17, 2011, in Manitoba Provincial Court, Mr. Nick Synchyshyn was convicted on three counts of violating quarantine-related provisions of the Health of Animals Act and Regulations.
All charges were the result of an incident in November 2009 when Mr. Synchyshyn transported and sold 43 beef calves that were under quarantine on his premises. By selling calves that were under quarantine, Mr. Synchyshyn put other cattle at risk by facilitating their contact with animals that were not quarantined.
Judge Hewitt-Michta sentenced Mr. Synchyshyn to a total of $9,000 in fines payable within nine months.
