Ontario Corp Number 1029530, Operating as Omega Advanced Technologies Incorporated, Fined for Violation of the Food and Drugs Act
July 5, 2010, Guelph, Ontario - On November 13, 2009, a conviction was registered against Ontario Corp Number 1029530, operating as Omega Advanced Technologies Incorporated, in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket for an offence under Section 4(1) of the Food and Drugs Act. The Honourable Justice West ordered the company to pay $2000 to the Hospital for Sick Children and a fine of $500.
Between September 12, 2006 and December 18, 2006, Ontario Corp 1029530, sold frozen turkey carcasses that were unfit for human consumption.
Section 4(1)(b) of the Food and Drugs Act states that no person shall sell an article of food that is unfit for human consumption.
The CFIA is responsible for enforcing a number of acts and regulations including the Food and Drugs Act which protects consumers from prohibited sales of food. This helps ensure that all Canadians have confidence in the quality of food products they purchase.
