Recent reports on food labelling fraud, food recalls and Genetically Modified foods have shown that Canadians are paying close attention to what they consume and want information to assure that the food they eat is safe and accurately represented.
Next Steps: Proposed Safe Food for Canadians Regulations
Consultations on the proposed Safe Food for Canadians Regulations closed on April 21, 2017 and the CFIA is now in the next phase of the regulatory process which involves reviewing and analyzing feedback.
Food Allergen Labelling
Did you know there are about 350 food recalls in Canada every year and undeclared food allergens continue to be one of the most common reasons for these recalls? For a business, food recalls can be costly and affect your reputation.
BioSAFE Project Uses Genetic Blueprints to Study Forest Enemies
Canada is the largest forest product exporter in the world, exporting $33 billion dollars of products to about 175 different countries annually. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is teaming up with Natural Resources Canada and FPInnovations to decode the genomes of insects and pathogens that threaten Canada's thriving forest export industry through a new project called BioSurveillance of Alien Forest Enemies (BioSAFE).
Upcoming Changes to Humane Transportation of Animals Regulations
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is working to update regulations for the humane transport of animals, specifically Part XII of the federal Health of Animals Regulations.
