Quarantine lifted in British Columbia

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has lifted the quarantine on the aquaculture facility associated with the case of infectious haematopoietic necrosis confirmed on May 30, 2012, in British Columbia.

There are no food safety or public health risks associated with infectious haematopoietic necrosis.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency extends its appreciation to the facilities' management and staff, the British Columbia Salmon Farmers Association, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and the Province of British Columbia for their support and cooperation throughout the investigation.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency now posts all confirmed cases of federally reportable aquatic animal diseases on its website on a monthly basis. This is part of the Agency’s efforts to be more open and transparent in the management of aquatic animal diseases.
