Consultation: Changes to import requirements for aquatic animals

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is seeking comments on a proposal to remove import requirements for animals susceptible to epizootic ulcerative syndrome (EUS).

EUS will remain an immediately notifiable disease, which means that laboratories must continue to notify the CFIA of suspected or confirmed cases.

EUS is a water mold caused by the fungus, Aphanomyces invadans. It is present in Canada and was confirmed in wild fish in Ontario in 2010.

Comments on the proposal should be sent to the National Aquatic Animal Health Program at NAAHPPNSAA@inspection.gc.ca.

Comments will be accepted until March 22, 2013.
