How do I apply to the Veterinary Student Internship Program?

We are please to inform you that we are now accepting applications for the 2013 Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Veterinary Student Internship Program (VSIP).

The deadline for submission of a complete application package to the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer is November 30, 2012. All applications will be acknowledged as received. Please ensure suitable means of contact are provided.

A complete application will include:

  1. Resumé
  2. Cover Letter
  3. Statement of Interest of up to 600 words indicating why you are interested in the VSIP program and how you envision it may impact your veterinary career. Please include a reference to preferred work location(s) during the program.
  4. An essay of approximately 1000 words outlining your understanding of the term 'Biosecurity'. Please provide details outlining your vision of the roles and opportunities for veterinarians and you in the context of 'Biosecurity'.
  5. Two letters of reference that include comments on contributions you have made to school or community, your leadership potential and your approach to teamwork. At least one of those references should be from a current or previous professor with whom you have worked closely.
  6. Official academic transcript.

Please note that only complete applications can be considered. In addition to the submitted materials, a telephone or in-person interview may be conducted as part of the pre-screening of applications or during final selections.

When completing your application please keep in mind that selections will be based on the demonstration of such criteria as willingness and ability to learn, broad range of interests, ability to work as part of a team, commitment, vision, written and oral communication skills.
