Biography - Dr. Allan Preston, DVM
On December 3, 2012, Dr. Allan Preston was appointed as coordinator to lead bovine tuberculosis (TB) eradication efforts in and around Manitoba's Riding Mountain National Park.
Dr. Preston is a Manitoba veterinarian, who has had extensive experience with the bovine TB file throughout his career. He has held several posts at Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives, including Chief Provincial Veterinarian and Assistant Deputy Minister of Agri-Industry Development and Innovation Division. Through these roles, Dr. Preston:
- guided the establishment of the Riding Mountain Eradication Area
- served on several industry-government TB working groups and committees
- spearheaded the implementation of the Province of Manitoba's TB Mustering Fee program
- worked with government, industry and stakeholders to develop and implement the Bovine Tuberculosis Eradication Plan for the Riding Mountain Eradication Area
Prior to his service in government, Dr. Preston operated a rural veterinary practice for 20 years.
Dr. Preston resides near Riding Mountain National Park, where he operates a grain and beef cattle farm in Hamiota.
