Compliments, comments and complaints

Do not use this page to submit a food safety or labelling concern

If you believe a food product poses a health and safety risk, complete the form to report a food-related concern.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is committed to excellence in its policies, programs and practices that support the delivery of its mandate under the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Act.

Your feedback helps us to better understand our stakeholders and improve program and service delivery.

Compliments or comments

Contact the CFIA online to submit your compliment or comment.

Your submission will be directed to the responsible branch within the CFIA. We will not contact you for further information.

Let us know when you have had a positive experience with any aspect of the agency's program and service delivery. Your experiences with the CFIA will be passed on to the responsible manager and/or employee for recognition.

Share an observation or suggestion on how the agency's programs or services could be improved. Your comment will be forwarded to the appropriate office or program area for consideration.

Complaints

The CFIA uses an incremental approach to manage complaints.

Stakeholders, including industry associations and regulated parties, that are dissatisfied with the overall impact of a CFIA program, policy or law the CFIA administers or enforces can submit a complaint detailing their concerns.

Follow these 2 steps to make a complaint.

Step 1 – Speak to the CFIA employee and their management

Try to resolve your concerns directly with the CFIA employee you have been in contact with.

If you disagree with the manner in which your concerns are being addressed, consult our office telephone directory to speak with the employee's manager or director. If you are still not satisfied, you can submit a complaint.

Step 2 – Submit a complaint

Contact the CFIA online to file a complaint and detail your concerns.

Once received, your complaint will be directed to the responsible branch within the CFIA. For example, concerns related to operational decisions or inspection services will be directed to our Operations Branch for appropriate action.

The CFIA strives to consult with stakeholders, including regulated and non-regulated parties, on significant policy and program issues that impact them.

Have your say by participating in consultations and learn more about our approach to compliance and enforcement.
