The Summary of Feed Drug Clearances
The Summary of Feed Drug Clearances has been designed to serve as a companion to the Compendium of Medicating Ingredient Brochures* (CMIB), which is the legal document spelling out the details for use for all approved feed additive drugs in Canada.
The Summary provides a convenient reference to the medicating ingredients approved for use in preventing, controlling and/or treating specific diseases and conditions of livestock. It is organized first by livestock species, then by disease/condition. It lists all drugs which, at the time of publication, have been approved for these uses. Also included are: the withdrawal period (in days) to be observed and the Medicating Ingredient Brochure (MIB) number for each drug (to enable quick reference to the CMIB).
Because this summary gives no details as to specific claims, levels of drug to be used, warnings and cautions, compatibility with other drugs, etc., it cannot be used on its own as an information source for mixing medicated feeds: persons mixing/manufacturing medicated feed should possess a copy of the CMIB.
To use the Summary of Feed Drug Clearances, locate the livestock species of concern and then the condition or disease requiring treatment, control or prevention. You will find listed there under all drugs approved for feed use in association with the condition/disease of concern. The number shown in the following column beside each drug name is the number of the MIB to be consulted in the CMIB, where all further necessary details on the use of that drug will be found.
Please Note:
- Only approved brands and levels of the approved drugs may be used. Feeding Directions, withdrawal periods and all other warnings and cautions must be followed. For all of this information, consult the CMIB and its amendments.
- Every effort was made to ensure that the information presented in this Summary was current at the time of publication. Notwithstanding these efforts, errors may be present; and, as modifications are made to the CMIB on a continual basis (in the form of amendments), the information contained herein will require updating in the future. Therefore, all users of this Summary are urged to consult the legal document referred to in the Feeds Regulations: the CMIB (and its amendments)
