Export of Dogs and Cats to Taiwan

The requirements for the export of dogs and cats to Taiwan are available on the website of the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) of Taiwan.

An official Veterinary Health Certificate based on these requirements has been developed by the CFIA and approved by the Taiwanese authorities. However, it is the responsibility of the exporter to verify that the BAPHIQ requirements have not changed since the issuance of the export certificate. The import conditions may be changed at any time by the Taiwanese authorities without the knowledge of the CFIA.

An import permit is needed to export a dog or cat to Taiwan. The "Application Form for Dog/Cat Import Permit" (Attachment A) , and the coordinates where to send it (Attachment B) are available at the above BAPHIQ website under the subject "Quarantine Rules for the Importation of Dogs or Cats into Taiwan". A reservation shall also be made at a post-entry quarantine in Taiwan at least 30 days prior to shipment (see Attachment B for contact information). Each animal will be quarantined on arrival for at least 21 days.

A neutralization antibody titration test for rabies antibody performed at a laboratory designated by BAPHIQ is mandatory. The only North American laboratories available in their list (Attachment C) are the Rabies Laboratory of the Kansas State University and the Department of Defense Laboratory, Ft Sam Houston, Texas.

Once the importer has received his or her import permit, a Veterinary Health Certificate to export dogs and cats to Taiwan (HA2221) - PDF (136 kb) must be completed by a veterinarian licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Canada before being presented to a CFIA official veterinarian to be endorsed. A fee is applicable for this service. The certificate is in PDF format and must be printed on legal size paper (8.5" X 14"), no other format will be accepted.
