Scrapie Manual of Procedures

E-mail subscription list

Introduction

The senior staff veterinarian responsible for the National Scrapie Program develops standards for the delivery of the National Scrapie Control/Eradication Program. Updates to the Scrapie Manual of Procedures and any related directives will be developed by the senior staff veterinarian responsible for the National Scrapie Program and distributed by the National Manager, Disease Control, to the program network veterinary officer responsible for scrapie domestic animal health programs in each Area.

The current, official version of the Scrapie Manual of Procedures for CFIA staff use and any relevant directives will be posted on CFIA's Website. Staff will be notified of updates through email.

If district veterinarians are unclear of the application of the National Scrapie Program in specific circumstances, they should contact one of the following for program clarification or technical support:

  • the veterinary program network specialist responsible for scrapie or the TSE specialist in their area;
  • the senior staff veterinarian responsible for the National Scrapie Program.

If such discussions result in disease control actions which are not covered by this manual of procedures (MOP), the senior staff veterinarian responsible for the National Scrapie Program should be consulted so that information concerning previous actions in similar situations in other parts of the country can be relayed, or so that actions which set precedents can be recorded. When appropriate, a national directive will be issued and the MOP will be updated.

Common Procedures Manual

These reports are to be provided to the person responsible for the National Scrapie Program for the purpose of national and international reporting (e.g. Canada's report to OIE).
