ALLERGY ALERT

HIGHLAND HONEY MAY CONTAIN SULFA DRUG RESIDUE

OTTAWA, September 2, 2005 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Highland Honey - Jim Smith are warning the public with sensitivities to sulfa drugs not to consume Highland honey as the product may be contaminated with sulfathiazole, a sulfa drug residue.

The affected honey is sold in unmarked containers of variable weights. This product has been distributed from the farm gate of Highland Honey - Jim Smith located in Fergus, Ontario.

There has been no reported illness associated with the consumption of this product.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivities to sulfa drugs.

The manufacturer, Highland Honey - Jim Smith, Fergus, Ontario is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
