OTTAWA, November 7, 2006 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Maple Leaf Foods are warning the public not to consume certain ham and sliced meat products described below. These products may have been subject to tampering with an unknown contaminant. A small number of syringe casings have been found by employees during the production process.

These products have been distributed nationally.
The CFIA and Maple Leaf Foods are conducting an investigation of the suspected tampering and the case has been referred to the police.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products and at this time no tampered product has been found at the retail level.
Maple Leaf Foods, Kitchener, Ontario is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
