UNDECLARED SOY AND MILK PROTEINS IN MAX'S CHRISTMAS CAKE ALMOND ICED

OTTAWA, January 10, 2008 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Max's Donuts (1964) Ltd are warning people with allergies to soy or milk proteins not to consume Max's Christmas Cake almond iced described below. The affected product may contain soy and milk proteins which are not declared on the label.

The affected product, Max's Christmas Cake almond iced, is sold in two (2) sizes:

  1. 500g - 17.7 oz packages bearing the UPC 0 63396 07214 3; and,
  2. 800g - 28.2 oz packages bearing the UPC 0 63396 07224 2.

All lot codes are affected by this alert.

This product has been distributed in British Columbia and Alberta.

There has been no reported allergic reaction associated with the consumption of this product.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to soy or milk proteins.

The manufacturer, Max's Donuts (1964) Ltd, Vancouver, British Columbia, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
