OTTAWA, September 26, 2008 - The consumer advisory issued on September 22, 2008 has been expanded to include all codes of the affected products as well as additional information on products distribution.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Thai Indochine Trading Inc. are advising people not to consume the Mr. Brown 3-in-1 instant coffee products described below as these products may be contaminated with melamine.

All codes of the following Mr. Brown brand products are affected by this advisory:

Instant Coffee 3 in 1 Blue Mountain Blend Coffee 4 710085 200597
Instant Coffee 3 in 1 Arabica Coffee 4 710085 122509

The affected products, sold in 450 g packages containing 30 X 15 g bags, have been distributed nationally.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The Canadian importer of this product, Thai Indochine Trading Inc., Markham, ON, is voluntarily recalling the affected products described above from the marketplace.

King Car Food Industrial Co. Ltd., Taiwan, is recalling additional Mr Brown products:

  • Mr. Brown Caramel Macchiato Instant Coffee (3-in-1)
  • Mr. Brown French Vanilla Instant Coffee (3-in-1)
  • Mr. Brown Mandheling Blend Instant Coffee (3-in-1)
  • Mr. Brown Milk Tea (3-in-1)

Although these additional products were not directly imported in Canada, they may have come through other sources. Consumers are advised not to consume these products.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall. This recall is a part of the Government of Canada's ongoing investigation into milk and milk-derived products sourced in/from China that may have been distributed in Canada.

Melamine is a chemical compound used in a number of commercial and industrial applications. Canada does not allow its use as a food ingredient.
