UNDECLARED EGG AND MILK IN HAITAI BRAND BUTTERRING COOKIES FROM KOREA

OTTAWA, July 28, 2009 – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with allergies to eggs or milk not to consume Haitai brand ButterRing Cookies described below. This product contains egg and milk which are not declared on the label.

All codes of the Haitai brand ButterRing Cookies, product of Korea, sold in 80 g packages bearing UPC 8 801019 306297, are affected by this alert. Product information can be found on the package and the sticker applied for the Canadian market.

The affected product is known to have been distributed in Ontario and Alberta. However, it may have been distributed nationally.

There have been no reported allergic reactions associated with the consumption of this product.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to eggs or milk.

The importers are voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
