ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED ALLERGENS IN SHAKESPEARE MEAT PIES

OTTAWA, August 19, 2009 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Shakespeare Pies are warning people with allergies to egg, milk, sulphites and/or soy not to consume Shakespeare meat pies. The affected products contain egg, milk, sulphites and/or soy which are not declared on the label.

The affected products, Shakespeare meat pies, described below, are sold frozen in 5" and 9" sizes. The labels do not bear a lot code, best before date or UPC.

These products have been distributed in Ontario.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to eggs, milk, sulphites and/or soy.

The manufacturer, Shakespeare Pies, Shakespeare, ON, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
