OTTAWA, September 11, 2009 - The public warning issued on September 10, 2009 has been expanded to include additional products.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and The Appleton Chocolates Company are warning people with allergies to milk not to consume the Appleton Chocolates Company dark chocolate truffles described below. The affected products contain milk which is not declared on the label.
All codes of the following Appleton Chocolates Company dark chocolate truffles, sold in 3-packs (56 g) with no UPC, are affected by this alert:
These products have been distributed in Nova Scotia and may have been sold from the company's website.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk.
The manufacturer, The Appleton Chocolates Company, Wentworth, NS, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
