OTTAWA, August 12, 2010 – The public warning issued on August 10, 2010 has been expanded to include additional distribution.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Maple Leaf Consumer Foods are warning people with allergies to milk not to consume the garlic sausage products described below. The affected products contain milk which is not declared on the label.

The following products, bearing EST 69B, are affected by this alert:

These ready-to-eat cooked meat products may have been sold pre-packaged under the brands listed above. They may also have been sold at deli counters and the original brand or exact product name may not have been transferred to the consumer packages. Persons who may have purchased these products and do not know the original brand and/or product name are advised to check with their retailer or supplier to determine if they have the affected product.

These products have been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Kenora, Ontario and Moose Factory, Ontario. However, they may have been distributed elsewhere in Ontario.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk.

The manufacturer, Maple Leaf Consumer Foods, Mississauga, ON is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
