Baby Food - Claims of Age
Group
Question: Is it acceptable, on the label of baby food, to indicate
an age group for which the product is suitable?
Answer: Yes, it is acceptable provided that:
- no representation is made on a label of a food, other than infant formula,
that the food is suitable for infants under the age of 6 months (Section
B.25.061 of the Food and Drug Regulations);
- and the claim is not presented in the form of a
"recommendation".
An acceptable statement, in line with these requirements would be
"Suitable for infants between 6 and 24 months of age". (03/02/93)
