11.7.3 Chile

11.7.3.1 General information

A memorandum of understanding has been signed with Chile for exports of pork which allows all registered establishments to export fresh pork (chilled or frozen) to Chile. However, in order to avoid unnecessary delays at the border or possibly refusals, exporters should confirm with the authorities at the Port of Entry that the exporting establishment is properly registered with the Chilean authorities prior to export.

11.7.3.2 Import prohibitions or restrictions

11.7.3.2.1 Import prohibitions

Beef - BSE: The importation of beef is prohibited.

11.7.3.2.2 Import restrictions

Establishments other than those producing fresh pork meat are to be approved by Chilean authorities.

Poultry meat: The importation of poultry meat is subject to restrictions related to Avian Influenza. A certification agreement has yet to be reached for this product.

11.7.3.3 Specific or additional inspection procedures

11.7.3.4 Additional certification

In the case of pork Annex A must be issued.

11.7.3.5 Special marking and packaging requirements

Nil

11.7.3.6 Other requirements

The container must be sealed with an official seal. The seal number and the container number must appear on the export certificate.
