11.7.3 Peru

11.7.3.1 General information

11.7.3.2 Import prohibitions or restrictions

11.7.3.2.1 Import prohibitions

Poultry meat - Avian Influenza: The importation of poultry meat is prohibited. Therefore, Annex B shall not be issued.

11.7.3.2.2 Import restrictions

*Refer to Annex 1 for the list of approved establishments*

Note: some establishments are approved for beef products. However certification requirements are still under discussion. Therefore no certification can be issued for this type of products.

11.7.3.3 Specific or additional inspection procedures

Preparation of tripe using sodium hydroxide. Health Canada's position is as follows:

"No objection will be taken to the use of a weak solution of sodium hydroxide in the tripe washing, scalding and denuding operations with the understanding that:

  1. Good manufacturing practices are followed.
  2. Only use the amount necessary to achieve the required technical effect.
  3. The food products are subject to a final potable water rinse."

11.7.3.4 Additional certification

  1. For poultry meat, Annex B shall not be issued as this country has imposed a ban relative to Avian Influenza.
  2. For pork, Annex C must be issued.

11.7.3.5 Special packaging or marking requirements

The date of production must appear on the label of each shipping container.

11.7.3.6 Other requirements

Transport containers must be sealed with an official seal.
