11.7.3 ARGENTINA

11.7.3.1 General information

Pork and beef meat products are not eligible for export.


11.7.3 GHANA

11.7.3.1 General information

Exporters are advised to work closely with Ghanaian importers to assure that the product meets applicable requirements (e.g. fat content, labelling requirements, etc.)

All imports are subject to inspection at destination.

11.7.3.2 Import prohibitions or restrictions

Poultry meat - Avian Influenza: The importation of poultry meat is prohibited unless authorized by the Ghananian authorities on a case-by-case basis and accompanied by an import permit.

11.7.3.5 Special packaging or marking requirements

11.7.3 GUATEMALA

11.7.3.1 General information

Nil

11.7.3.2 Import prohibitions or restrictions

11.7.3.2.1 Import prohibitions

Poultry meat - Avian Influenza: The importation of poultry meat from Saskatchewan is prohibited.

11.7.3.2.2 Import restrictions

Beef products: only fresh or frozen boneless beef derived from animals under 30 months of age only is eligible.
(see Annex A for restrictions)

11.7.3.4 Additional certification

In the case of beef products, annex A must be issued

11.7.3.5 Special packaging or marking requirements

11.7.3.6 Other requirements

Form CFIA/ACIA 1454 should be visaed by the Guatemalan consulate.


11.7.3 INDONESIA

11.7.3.1 General information

Processed meat products have to be registered with the Indonesian authorities, and exporters should write for further information to:

Only meat products derived from animals slaughtered in keeping with Islamic rites and certified accordingly by an accepted Islamic Association may be exported. The exporter/importer are responsible to supply the required Halal certification. As well, they are responsible to ensure that the products are labelled in accordance with all Indonesian labelling requirements applicable at the time of importation, including requirement to label in both English and Bahasa Indonesia.

11.7.3.2 Import prohibitions or restrictions

11.7.3.2.1 Import prohibitions

Poultry meat - Avian Influenza: The importation of poultry meat not processed to inactivate the avian influenza virus is prohibited.

11.7.3.2.2 Import restrictions

Beef products:

  • Eligible products: boneless meat, and edible offal: oxtail, tongue, heart and liver.
  • Eligible establishments as of June 22, 2007: 38, 51, 93, 235A, 401 and 597

11.7.3.3 Specific or additional inspection procedures

11.7.3.4 Additional certification

Beef products:

Annex A must be issued.

11.7.3.5 Special packaging or marking requirements

Beef products:

In addition to Canadian requirements, the label of the packing of the meat and the edible offal shall include the date of slaughter.

11.7.3.6 Other requirements

Beef products:

The imported meat and edible offal shall be shipped directly from the country of origin to the port of entry in Indonesia, except approved otherwise by Directorate General of Livestock Services of the Department of Agriculture of Indonesia.

The container for transporting meat and edible offal from the country of origin shall be sealed with a CFIA official seal under the supervision of the CFIA and could only be opened by the authorized Animal Quarantine Officer in the port of entry. During transportation, the temperature in the container shall be kept stable.


11.7.3 ISRAEL

11.7.3.1 General information

Slaughter plants must be approved by Israeli authorities, which may require a review visit by those authorities. Formulation and process approval is required before processed meat products may be exported to Israel, and evidence of this approval must be submitted to the appropriate inspector before certificates are signed.

11.7.3.2 Import prohibitions or restrictions

Beef - BSE: The importation of beef is prohibited.

Poultry meat - Avian Influenza: The importation of poultry meat from Saskatchewan is prohibited.

11.7.3.4 Additional certification

Certification in respect of ritual slaughter is required.

11.7.3.5 Special packaging or marking requirements

Nil

11.7.3.6 Other requirements

11.7.3 KUWAIT

11.7.3.1 General information

Game buffalo meat, mutton, lamb and goat meat in the form of carcasses, bone-in and boneless cuts, salt meat, smoked meat, minced meat (sausage meat), offal, poultry and canned products may be exported.

11.7.3.2 Import prohibitions or restrictions

11.7.3.2.1 Import prohibitions

Beef - BSE: The importation of beef is prohibited.

Pork, lard and products containing pork, pig fat or alcohol: The importation of these products is prohibited.

11.7.3.2.2 Import restrictions

Preserved meat and meat products shall not contain sodium nitrate in excess of 500 mg/kg measured as nitrate, free sulphur dioxide in excess of 450 mg/kg or starch in excess of 4% on a dry weight basis.

11.7.3.3 Specific or additional inspection procedures

Nil

11.7.3.4 Additional certification

  1. A certificate in respect of ritual slaughter is required.
  2. Additionally, for preserved meat products, the manufacturer shall provide a declaration, under company letterhead, as to the kind of meat and composition of the product, including fat content, on a percentage basis. The declaration shall be completed by an official veterinarian, as follows:

    "I, the undersigned, a duly qualified veterinary surgeon in the employ of the Government of Canada, have no reason to doubt the truth of this declaration.

    Date Signature of Official Veterinarian"

11.7.3.5 Special packaging or marking requirements

  1. Carcasses shall be branded to indicate compliance with Halal ritual slaughter requirements.
  2. Consumer-sized packages of meat and meat products require Arabic labelling detailing the trade description, product contents, date of manufacture and expiry date. There is no objection to dual labelling in English and Arabic.

11.7.3.6 Other requirements

11.7.3 UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

11.7.3.1 General information

A certificate in respect of ritual slaughter is required for beef, including veal and also for poultry meats. The exporter is responsible to make the necessary arrangements with an Islamic Organization to obtain certification acceptable to UAE authorities.

The certification required should be endorsed by the Embassy of the UAE. The exporter is responsible to ensure that this requirement is met to the satisfaction of the UAE authorities.

11.7.3.2 Import prohibitions or restrictions

11.7.3.2.1 Import prohibitions

Pork, pork fat or pork products and any percentage of pork mixed with other meat product are not permitted. However, available information indicates that exceptionally Dubai or Abu Dhabi permits imports of pork meat/pork meat products. The point of entry for these products in the UAE should be Dubai.

11.7.3.2.2 Import restrictions

Beef/veal: please refer to Annex A or B, as applicable for additional requirements.

11.7.3.3 Specific or additional inspectional procedures

Nil

11.7.3.4 Additional certification

Beef: Annex A must be issued.

Veal: Annex B must be issued.

11.7.3.5 Special marking and packaging requirements

All meat items must be identified in Arabic with regard to the species of animal.
