Consultation on Section 92 of Canada's Meat Inspection Regulations, 1990 (Consultation closed 2010-11-05)

The CFIA is collaborating with Health Canada to review the current regulatory scheme for the pre-market assessment and registration of meat packaging components used by federally registered establishments. Every effort is being made to ensure that any changes will not impact food safety, and are undertaken in an open and transparent manner to reflect the views and concerns of industry stakeholders and Canadians on the merits of section 92.

  • 2012-04-07 - Regulations Amending the Meat Inspection Regulations, 1990 (20243B)
This regulatory proposal would remove the requirement that the material be registered. It is important to note that for food safety and health reasons, the key requirements related to safe packaging and labelling would remain, and all materials used in packaging or labelling meat products in a registered establishment would continue to be required to be durable, effective and suitable for their intended purpose.
