Using the Reference Listing
This reference listing operates in a database format. The database organizes entries by categories which indicate basic accepted product usage (e.g. cleaners). These primary categories are then divided into sub-categories which indicate more specific permitted uses for the materials (e.g. hand cleaners). There are various ways to search the database for the information you require:
Search by Category or Use
Step 1: Select a topic from the drop-down list of reference
categories.
If you would like a list of all products for all categories in the
database, you do not need to make any selections. Simply proceed by clicking
the submit button. Please note that selecting all categories will generate a
report containing thousands of entries. This will produce considerably longer
waiting times for the report to appear on your screen.
Step 2: Select a topic from the drop-down list of sub-categories. The options for sub-categories are dependent upon your first selection and will vary between categories. If you wish to view all products in your primary category, you do not need to select a sub-category. By default, the database will include all sub-categories in the report if a selection is not made.
Step 3: Once your selections have been made, click the submit button.
Step 4: The database will produce a report of the requested material and this will appear on your screen once completed. The report lists the appropriate product names and includes the company name and the date of acceptance of each product. In addition, the products' conditions of use will be listed above the list as applicable.
Step 5: If you click on a company name, you can view a list of all products from that specific company that are included in the CFIA database. This option is available for any company name listed in the database. The report includes the product name and acceptance date, as well as each category and sub-category in which the product is classified. Please note that all commercial information reflects the language in which it was submitted to CFIA.
At any time, you can begin your search again by clicking the New Search button located above the report on the right side. This will take you back to the database start page. In addition, there is a menu on the left side of the report where you can find information regarding guideline submissions and FAQs about the reference material.
