Consultation: Guide to the Canadian Federal Regulatory Requirements for Fertilizers and Supplements

As a part of program modernization, the Fertilizer Section and Fertilizer Safety Office of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) are drafting a new Guide to the Canadian Federal Regulatory Requirements for Fertilizers and Supplements. This new document is intended to replace the dated Guidelines to the Fertilizers Act and Regulations.

The new Guide is intended to assist manufacturers, facility operators, importers, distributors and retailers in meeting the regulatory requirements prescribed by the Acts and Regulations administered by the CFIA with respect to fertilizers and supplements. It is designed as a self-contained document for use by industry and other stakeholders. Each section of the Guide will be specific to a product type and is intended to reflect the current regulatory framework for that product type. As regulations and policies are updated, the relevant section(s) of the Guide will be updated to ensure that it remains the source for determining the current requirements for products regulated under the Fertilizers Act.

Prior to introducing new sections of the Guide, the Crop Inputs Division is asking Canadians to submit their comments for consideration. Since the Guide is currently being drafted, each section will be posted to the website for comment as they become available. Please note, that any comments made with respect to the regulatory framework of a product type will be considered separately, and at a later date, from comments with respect to the Guide itself. Please send us your comments on Section 3 Registration Guide: Micronutrient Fertilizers, by November 2, 2009, using the interactive form or in writing to:
