Summary: The plants of 'DrisBlueFourteen' have medium vigour whereas the plants of 'Elliot' have strong vigour. 'DrisBlueFourteen' has a short one-year-old shoot whereas 'Elliot' has a medium to long one-year-old shoot. The leaf blade of 'DrisBlueFourteen' is longer than the leaf blade of 'Elliot'. The flower of 'DrisBlueFourteen' has a large corolla tube whereas 'Elliot' has a medium sized corolla tube. 'DrisBlueFourteen' has fruit that is round in longitudinal section and 'Elliot' has fruit that is oblate in longitudinal section. The fruit of 'DrisBlueFourteen' is high in sweetness whereas the fruit of 'Elliot' is medium in sweetness.

Description:

PLANT: medium vigour, semi-upright growth habit, flowers and fruits on one-year-old shoots only, flowering begins late season, fruit ripening begins late season
ONE-YEAR-OLD SHOOT: reddish yellow, short internode length

LEAF: large length to width ratio, oblong shape, light green on upper side, entire margin

FLOWER BUD: early bud burst, weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration
COROLLA: cylindrical shaped
COROLLA TUBE: large with ridges, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration

FRUIT: medium density fruit cluster, light intensity of green on unripe fruit, large, round in longitudinal section, medium bloom intensity, light blue skin, medium firmness, high sweetness, medium acidity

Origin & Breeding History: 'DrisBlueFourteen' resulted from a cross between proprietary varieties 'G455', as the female parent, and 'MS122', as the male parent, made in 2000 in Santa Cruz County, California. From the resulting progeny, 'DrisBlueFourteen' was selected in 2004 for its vigour and firm fruit with low acidity. 'DrisBlueFourteen' was subsequently asexually propagated by softwood cuttings for further testing from 2008 to 2012.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'DrisBlueFourteen' was conducted by Expert Agriculture Team Ltd., in Chilliwack, British Columbia during the 2017 and 2018 growing seasons. Each variety consisted of 3 replicates with 3 plants per replicate for a total of 9 plants of each variety. Plants were spaced approximately 76 cm apart within rows and 3 metres between rows. Measurements were taken from 9 plants, or 9 parts of plants, of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
