Origin & Breeding History: 'ANNYS5' was bred and developed by the breeder, Andre van Nijnatten, in Zundert, Netherlands. It originated from a cross conducted in 1998, between an unnamed proprietary seedling, as the female parent, and an unnamed proprietary seedling, as the male parent. From the resulting progeny, 'ANNYS5' was selected in 2003, for its compact and semi-upright plant growth habit, glossy appearance of the leaves, and oblanceolate shape of the leaf blade. 'ANNYS5' was first propagated asexually by semi-hardwood stem cuttings in 2003, in Zundert, Netherlands.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'ANNYS5' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2013/0941, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany in Cambridge, United Kingdom, in 2014 and 2015. The colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
