Description:
PLANT: non-climbing type, upright growth habit, short to medium natural height including inflorescence
STEM: no fasciation, green, medium number of lenticels in autumn, red lenticels
LEAF BLADE: medium to long, medium width, no lobing, ovate shape, short tip, obtuse base, shallow incisions of margin, no variegation, weak blistering
LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): mainly purple, no secondary colour, absent or weak degree of glossiness
FLOWERING: begins mid-season
INFLORESCENCE: globular to conical shape, tall, medium diameter, inconspicuous or slightly conspicuous fertile flowers
STERILE FLOWER: small to medium diameter, double type, very strong degree of overlapping of sepals, incisions of margin absent on all sepals
SEPAL OF STERILE FLOWER (INNER SIDE): mainly light blue pink to light blue violet (RHS 69B/C), purple red (RHS 58C) secondary colour distributed at distal part
Origin & Breeding History: 'H2002' was bred and developed by the breeder, Mr. Roji Irie, in Kyoto, Japan. It was bred as part of an ongoing controlled breeding program. 'H2002' originated from a cross conducted in 2002 in Kyoto, between an unnamed proprietary seedling, as the female parent, and the variety 'Yamaajisai', as the male parent. From the resulting progeny, 'H2002' was selected in 2006 for its double flower type, flower colour, flower sterility, repeat blooming ability, and the colour of the young foliage. 'H2002' was first propagated asexually by softwood cuttings in 2008, in Kyoto, Japan.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'H2002' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2014/0128, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the testing station of the Groupe d'Étude et de Contrôle des Variétés et des Semences in Brion, France, from 2015 to 2016. The colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
