Origin & Breeding History: 'G12166' was bred and developed by the breeder Richard A. Grazzini, of Garden Genetics LLC, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA beween July and September of 2011. The variety originated from an open pollinated cross between the female parent variety 'Carolina Bright Orange' and pollen from an unknown male parent. The male parent originated from a seedling population of yellow flowered breeding lines that were derived from the variety 'New Gold'. 'G12166' was selected based on its growth habit, foliage colour and size, duration of flowering, flower colour and reduced fruit and seed set. The new variety 'G12166' was first propagated by vegetative cuttings and tissue culture in February 2012 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'G12166' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2015 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 15, 2015. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety on June 3, 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
