Summary: The leaflet of 'CDC Lima' is wider than the leaflet of 'CDC Improve'. The pod, excluding the beak, of 'CDC Lima' is longer than the pod of 'CDC Greenstar'.

Description:

PLANT: matures mid-season

STEM: weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration

LEAF: elliptic

FLOWER: flowers mid-season, medium size, white standard with light to medium violet stripes

POD: mainly one ovule, yellow at maturity, truncate shaped apex
DRY SEED: greenish yellow cotyledon, medium to broad, broad elliptic in longitudinal cross-section, greenish yellow testa, dull brown hilum

Origin & Breeding History: 'CDC Lima' (experimental designation IBC937) originated from a cross between 4152-5 and 'CDC Improve', which was then further backcrossed to 4152-5 three times. The crosses were conducted at the Crop Development Centre, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with the final cross conducted in 2011. Selection criteria was based on yield, seed weight, seed size, seed coat colour, cotyledon colour, days to flower, days to maturity, lodging resistance, plant height, and disease resistance. Selections were made during the F1 to F4 generations. Twenty nine sub-lines were created from the F2 derived F5 seed and subsequently used to establish breeder seed.

Tests & Trials: The tests and trials for 'CDC Lima' were conducted at the Crop Development Centre of the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan during the 2016 and 2018 growing seasons. The trials were conducted using a RCB Design consisting of 2 replications per variety. Each replicate consisted of 3 rows spaced 30 cm apart, with a row length of 3.66 metres and a planting density of 94 seeds per square metre. Measured characteristics were based on 20 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences are significant at the 5% probability level based on a Student's t-test.
