Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Fishelen' (Charmant 98)

Summary: 'Fishelus' has taller plants than 'Fishelen'.

Description:

'Fishelus' is a pelargonium variety with medium to tall plants which are medium to broad. The stems are medium in thickness and green. The leaf blade is medium in length to long and medium in width to broad with a closed base. Degree of lobing of the leaf blade is weak to moderate. The upper side of the leaf blade is medium green with no variegation. There is a moderately conspicuous, reddish brown zone on the upper side of the leaf blade. The incisions of the leaf blade margin are bicrenate and shallow. Undulation of the margin is weak to moderate.

'Fishelus' begins flowering mid-season to late and produces a medium to large number of inflorescences. The inflorescences are medium in diameter and the peduncles are medium to long. The number of open flowers per inflorescence is large. The diameter of the largest flower is medium to large and the length of the longest pedicel is medium. The pedicel is green with no swelling. The flower buds are elliptic in shape. The flowers are semi-double type with 6-10 petals per flower. The petal margin is entire. The width of the upper petal is broad. Both the upper and lower sides of the upper petal are mainly red pink. There is no white zone at the base of the upper petal. The petal markings on the upper petal are very weak stripes. The upper side of the lower petal is mainly red pink and the lower side is light blue pink. The lower petal has no petal markings. The upper side of the inner petal is mainly red pink with no petal markings. The basal third on the upper side of the upper, lower and inner petals is orange red.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Fishelus' (breeder designation 'Fit 426-416') originated from a hybridization conducted in Hillscheid, Germany in 1995. The female parent was a seedling selection with light salmon coloured flowers designated '91-1216-3' and the male parent was another seedling selection with red flowers designated '93-250-8'. The first selection occurred in Galdar, Gran Canaria, Spain in 1996 and in 1997, cuttings from the selected seedling were taken back to Hillscheid for further selection and trial cultivation. 'Fishelus' was selected for its rich flower colour in combination with earliness of flowering and medium sized plants.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, grant number PEL 1981, purchased from the Bundessortenamt in Hannover, Germany. The trials were conducted in 2005. All colour characteristics were determined using the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart, 2001 edition.
