Variety used for comparison: 'BHTUN31501'

Summary: The plants of 'DCASPITAYA' have an upright to spreading growth habit whereas the plants of 'BHTUN31501' are spreading. The flowers of 'DCASPITAYA' have a medium width whereas the flowers of 'BHTUN31501' are narrow.

Description:

PLANT: upright to spreading growth habit, medium height, medium to long shoot

LEAF BLADE: medium to long, narrow to medium width, elliptic, acute apex, no variegation, light green

PEDICEL: medium length, strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration
CALYX: long, narrow
FLOWER: single type
COROLLA: medium width, medium degree of lobing, medium degree of undulation
COROLLA (INNER SIDE): weak to medium conspicuousness of purple veins, purple (more blue than RHS N74A) when newly opened, purple (more blue than RHS N74A) with small amount of light green (RHS 145A) at margin of corolla when fully opened, violet (RHS N78A) when aged, absent or few flowers with different size of area of secondary colour
COROLLA LOBE: cuspidate apex
COROLLA TUBE: broad, inner side dark violet (RHS N92A), strong conspicuousness of veins on inner side, outer side dark violet (RHS N79D)
ANTHER: whitish pollen before dehiscence

Origin & Breeding History: 'DCASPITAYA' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeder, Gavriel Danziger, in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel in January 2013. The cross was made between the female parent designated 11-5032 and the male parent designated 11-5030. A single seedling was selected from the resultant progeny in September 2013 based on plant growth habit, vigour, branching characteristics; and flower colour, size and abundance. Asexual reproduction by vegetative cuttings of 'DCASPITAYA' was first conducted in September 2013, in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Israel.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'DCASPITAYA' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2015/3015, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Bundessortenamt, in Hannover, Germany, in 2017. The colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
