Summary: The lightsprout base of 'Wendy' has a medium density of pubescence whereas the lightsprout base of 'Gala' has sparse pubescence in relation to the base. The lightsprout tip of 'Wendy' is small whereas as the lightsprout if 'Gala' is medium size in relation to base. The lightsprout of 'Wendy has few root tips whereas the lightsprout of 'Gala' has a medium number of root tips. The plants of 'Wendy are taller than the plants of 'Gala'. The tuber shape of 'Wendy' is oval whereas the tuber shape of 'Gala' is short oval.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Wendy' originated from a cross conducted in 2001 between '1.742102-95' and 'Gala' at Norika Nordring Kartoffelzucht und Vermehrungs GmbH., Lüsewitz, Germany. 'Wendy' was selected in 2003 for its positive agronomic characteristics and resistance to various diseases.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Wendy' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the growing season of 2016 in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 19.5 metre long row containing 65 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart for each variety. The distance between rows within the trial was 0.9 metres. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
